How to Play as a Cat in Minecraft (Java, Bedrock & Consoles)

Minecraft has tameable cats, but plenty of players want something else entirely: to be the cat. There are three real ways to do it, and they are not equal. Here's the honest breakdown — including the routes that don't involve installing anything.

Option 1: Java mods

On Java Edition, morph-style mods and the Origins mod family can turn your player into (or close to) a cat. Morph mods let you take the form of mobs you've encountered, and Origins-based setups can give you a feline origin with cat-like traits — smaller hitbox, fall-damage immunity, that kind of thing.

The catch:

• You need a mod loader (Fabric or Forge), the right mod versions, and they must match your Minecraft version.
• It only works where the mods are installed. Vanilla multiplayer servers won't show your cat to anyone.
• If you want to play with friends, every friend needs the same mod list — and someone has to run a modded server.
• Every game update is a chance for the pack to break until mods catch up.

Mods are the deepest option for singleplayer tinkering, but they lock you out of ordinary multiplayer and out of Bedrock entirely.

Option 2: Bedrock add-ons

On Bedrock, marketplace skins and the character creator are strictly humanoid — a "cat skin" is a person wearing cat print.
