Getting Started

I'm brand new, what should I do first?

Welcome aboard! Here's the short version to get you going:

1. Find a spot you like and claim it with a golden shovel (right-click two opposite corners).
2. Save a home there with /sethome.
3. Grab your /daily reward.
4. Work through /objectives and /skills to level up.
5. Pick your cat in /cats.

One heads-up: water and wolves aren't your friends, so keep an eye out. 🐾

How do I get back to spawn or the lobby?

/spawn takes you straight there, and it's where all the NPCs and traders hang out. You can also pop open the command menu any time with /menu. 🏠

Can I play on Bedrock? (crossplay)

You sure can, NovaVoid is full crossplay. A handful of cat features behave a little differently on Bedrock. If your camera looks off, use /catcam on Bedrock or /catview on Java, and report anything broken with /rp.

Catnip & Currency

What is catnip and how do I earn it?

Catnip is the server money. It's a balance rather than an item, so check yours with /bal. There's no single grind, just play how you like and the catnip follows:

• Sell to other players, or quick-sell at /sell.
• Finish /objectives and quests.
• Run your own shop (start with /pw shoptutorial).
• Crack open crystals. An Epic crystal alone is worth 1000! 💰

What are whisker tokens and how do I get them?

Whisker Tokens are the premium currency, shown as the pink cat on your HUD. You'll pick them up from:

• Objectives
• Fishing
• Boxes
• Fighting dog bosses
• The token quest

Spend them to revive lives, which you manage in /profile. The cap is 5, and you can check yours with /bal.

What do crystals do?

Crystals drop from the Crystal Storm, and an Epic one is worth a hefty 1000 catnip. To use a storm crystal charge, hold it and sneak + right-click. A plain right-click won't set it off. ⚡

Claims & Land

How do I claim land?

Claiming keeps your build safe from grief. Craft a golden shovel, then right-click two opposite corners of the area you want. You can earn more claim blocks by playing and voting, or just buy them at spawn. Check what you own with /claims. 🪧

How do I join a civ or territory?

Civs, territories, and societies are all the same thing: a group you join, a bit like a faction. Run /civs or /territories to browse the groups looking for members. Once you're in, a civ leader can open the claim up to everyone in the group. 🏰

How do vaults work?

/vault (or /pv) opens your personal vaults, which stay safe even when you die. Jump straight to one with /vault <number>, or see them all with /vault list. 🗄️

Your Cat

How do I see myself as a cat, or fix my camera?

By default cats use the normal vanilla camera. If you'd rather see your own cat, the command depends on your platform:

• Bedrock: /catcam (this also fixes the camera sitting a block too high).
• Java: /catview, handy if your cat looks invisible to you.

How do I change which cat I am?

Open /cats and pick from any skin you've unlocked. New skins come from boxes, which you can buy from the Cardboard Box Dealer at spawn, and once a skin is unlocked it's yours for good. 🐱

How do I unlock new cat skins?

New looks come from boxes (there's no re-roll system these days). Open boxes from the Cardboard Box Dealer at spawn, then pick whatever you've unlocked with /cats. 🎨

How do I change my collar color?

On Java, just run /collar and choose a color. On Bedrock, collar colors come from the Void Box (we're still polishing how collars render there). Either way, it's purely cosmetic. 🎀

What do cats eat, and what is "canned" food?

Cats eat fish, chicken, and any cooked meat. Raw meat will poison you, so always cook it first. "Canned" food is just our name for cooked food: cook something and it converts automatically, and if it doesn't, drop it on the ground and pick it back up. 🍗

How do I sit, lay, meow, purr, or hiss?

Two of those are poses and three are sounds:

• Poses: /sit, /lay
• Sounds: /meow, /purr, /hiss

Lives

What happens when I lose all my lives?

You drop into spectator mode until someone revives you, or you revive yourself, with a whisker token. You can manage your lives in /profile, and don't worry, keep-inventory is on so your stuff is safe. 😺

How do I give a friend a life?

When a friend runs out of lives they go into spectator. To bring them back, spend a whisker token from /profile. That's also where you can claim your own free life.

Combat & Survival

Why do I take damage in water?

Cats really don't like water, and swimming still hurts, so be careful around deep water. Rain won't damage you these days, it just slows you down a little, and deserts stay nice and dry if you'd rather avoid the wet altogether. 🐟

Why aren't creepers scared of me?

Creepers don't automatically flee from cats — you need to unlock the Creeper Ward skill in /skills first. Once unlocked, any creeper within 6 blocks will run off, so no surprise explosions. If one isn't running away, check that you've got the skill unlocked.

How do I jump high?

Crouch (shift) and jump at the same time for a super jump about 3 blocks high. There's a 5 second cooldown, and it works on both Java and Bedrock.

Why are there dogs attacking me, and what is Big Red?

Those are dog invasions, and they roam the world (though never inside your claims). Fight them off for loot and whisker-token milestones. Rack up enough kills and Dogzilla turns up, and at around 500 dog kills Big Red starts appearing. He's tanky and breathes fire, so bring friends. Track your progress in /objectives. 🐶

How do I skip the night?

You can't sleep through the night on your own, so instead you start a server-wide vote. Cast yours with /skipday yes (or /skipday no). Phantoms still spawn at night, so stay claimed and safe. 🌙

What does "Omnicat has saved you" mean?

It means Omnicat just stepped in and saved you from a creeper explosion. Lucky you! 🐱

Progression

How do I get skill points and use skills?

Open /skills (if it won't open, switch it on in /settings), then spend the skill points you earn from /objectives. Each entry in /houses is its own skill tree, so once you finish one you can prestige to unlock the next. 🌿

Where are the quests, and how do I complete them?

Head to the Quest NPCs at /spawn to turn in finished quests and pick up new ones. One thing to remember: items need to be loose in your inventory, since anything tucked inside a shulker won't count. 📜

How does the battle pass work?

You earn pass XP just by playing. Objectives, quests, fishing, /daily, voting, and minigames all add up. Spend it climbing tiers in /pass for rewards, and it's also where extra home slots come from. 🎁

How do I open or get boxes?

Hold a box, place it down, then break it with your paw to open it. Want a peek first? Hold the box and type [i] to preview the loot and the odds. You can buy more from the Cardboard Box Dealer at spawn, and boxes are where new cat skins come from too. 🎁

Teleporting & Social

How do I teleport to another player?

Send a request with /tpa <player>, and they accept with /tpaccept (or turn it down with /tpdeny). Looking for player builds and warps instead? Use /pw. 🧭

How do I set a home?

• /sethome <name> saves your current spot.
• /home <name> takes you back.
• /homes lists everywhere you've saved.

Need more home slots? Those come from /pass, the battle pass. 🏠

Is there a Discord?

There is! Run /discord in-game for the invite link. Recording and streaming are very welcome, just tag us in your content.

Settings & Tech

How do I hide chat?

Run /silence to hide it, then /silence again to bring it back. You'll find more chat toggles in /settings. 💬

How do I make my UI smaller?

GUI scale is a Java-only setting, tucked under Options → Video → GUI Scale. Bedrock doesn't have a GUI-scale option, so there's nothing to change there. 📱

How do I get furniture?

Furniture comes from /pass rewards and the store. Once you've got a piece, just place it down like any other block. 🪑
